Intealth™ is set to enforce its Recognized Accreditation Policy in the latter part of 2024. Initially introduced by ECFMG in 2010 and now a division of Intealth, the policy, also known as “2023 Accreditation,” has undergone changes over time. However, Intealth remains steadfast in its dedication to supporting global accreditation initiatives and advocating for unified standards in evaluating undergraduate medical education on a global scale.

The upcoming implementation, commencing late next year, will involve the reporting of medical schools that comply with the policy’s requirements, outlined below. Importantly, this implementation will not impact an individual’s eligibility for ECFMG Certification.

Changes to Anticipate:

If a medical school meets the criteria of the Recognized Accreditation Policy, a notation will be appended to the:

• School’s entry in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
• ECFMG Status Reports for students and graduates applying to U.S. graduate medical education programs through the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) and similar application services.

What Remains Unchanged:

The late 2024 implementation will not alter:

• Individual eligibility for ECFMG Certification, allows international medical students and graduates (IMGs) to pursue certification even if their current medical school does not meet policy requirements.
• Medical school eligibility for an ECFMG Sponsor Note.
• Usage of other ECFMG services, including EPIC.
